FAIR For Health Research - Realising the European Open Science Cloud

Organised as part of the Realising the European Open Science Cloud joint event by the EOSC-hub, FREYA and SSHOC projects, the EOSC Projects EXPO is the first virtual exhibition showcasing initiatives and projects of the European Open Science Cloud. The EOSC Projects EXPO showcases some of the latest developments towards “Realising a European Open Science Cloud” from the many initiatives and projects that are working together towards the same goal. The exhibition, as a complement to the Realising the EOSC conference programme, is expected to be a platform that gathers all the EOSC players together for four days of knowledge exchange, the creation of potential synergies, and networking.

FAIR4Health is attending this important event at the global level. For that, a booth called 'FAIR For Health Research' has been performed.

FAIR4Health project aims to encourage the health research community to use the FAIR principles to share and reuse datasets derived from health care and research in a safe and reliable way.

At the EOSC Projects EXPO, FAIR4Health explains the design and implementation of a workflow to apply the FAIR principles to health research data as well as EHR data, starting from the basic model on the FAIRification process of GO FAIR, and addressing the very relevant ethical, legal and technical aspects that health context aggregates. To apply this health-specific FAIRification workflow, these barriers and requirements have been in-depth analysed; And FAIRification tools, based on the HL7 FHIR standard, have been developed, with the aim to obtain FAIR data from health research data. Besides, the FAIR4Health platform has been designed to apply Privacy-Preserving Distributed Data Mining algorithms implemented. The latest technical developments are being completed in November 2020.

Then, the FAIR4Health platform is going to be validated with the two pathfinder case studies:

1) Identification of multimorbidity patterns and polypharmacy correlation on the risk of mortality in the elderly.

2) Early prediction service for 30-days readmission risk in COPD patients. In the clinical validation phase, the potential impact of FAIR4Health will be demonstrated.
