Event Description

MedInfo is a worldwide key event in digital health that gathers scientists, physicians, teachers, students, companies, institutions, and decision-makers. The event provides both a high quality scientific exchange of current research and thinking in health and biomedical informatics. Participants have the opportunity to share knowledge in an international context in order to improve health and the well-being of interconnected citizens everywhere in the world.

In this context, FAIR4Health will be presented as part of the following workshops:

  1. FAIR Health Data Sharing Initiatives in Europe: Opportunities and Challenges for international cooperation.
    • Abstract: In the data-driven age of medical research many initiatives and projects focus on data linkage and functional integration as well as data reuse. Providing “FAIR data” is a common challenge for all of them. For this workshop leaders of six nation-wide and European initiatives/projects have joined in order to identify the major concepts, challenges and hurdles. In discussions with the audience they search for opportunities to strenghten all those approaches by joining workforces and aligning concepts.
    • Presenters (members of FAIR4Health consortium in bold):
      • Hans-Ulrich Prokosch, Chair of Medical Informatics, Univ. of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen, Germany.
      • Thomas Ganslandt, Department of Biomedical Informatics of the Heinrich-Lanz-Center, Mannheim University. Medicine, University of Heidelberg, Mannheim, Germany.
      • Ulrich Sax, Departmentof Medical Informatics,University of Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany.
      • Christian Lovis, Division of Medical Information Science, University Hospitals of Geneva, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland.
      • Carlos Luis Parra Calderón, Chair of Innovation Technology, Virgen del Rocío University Hospitals, Andalusian Health Service, Sevilla, Spain.
      • Nigel Hughes, Janssen, JCI Patient Data for Research, Beerse, Belgium.
      • Peter Rijnbeck, Department of Medical Informatics, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
      • Wiro Niessen, Department of Medical Informatics, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
      • Barend Mons, Human Genetics Department of Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, Netherlands.
      • Kees van Bochove, The Hyve, Utrecht, Netherlands.
  2. FHIR for FAIR: Advancing interoperability for health data
    • Abstract: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, or the FAIR data principles aim to guide scientific data manage-ment and stewardship and are relevant to all stakeholders in the digital ecosystem. The objective of the FAIR4Health project is to facilitate and encourage the research community to FAIRify, that is share and reuse datasets derived from publicly funded research initiatives. Such actions will demonstrate the potential impact that the FAIR strategy will have on health outcomes and health research. Taking the FAIR4Health project as a starting point, this workshop will engage the audience to reflect on ways that HL7 FHIR standards can support the FAIRification process providing input to policy, standards, and research.
    • Presenters (members of FAIR4Health consortium in bold):
      • Catherine Chronaki, HL7 Foundation, Brussels, Belgium
      • Giorgio Cangioli, HL7 Foundation, Brussels, Belgium
      • Anne Moen, University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway.
      • Patrick Weber, European Federation for Medical Informatics, Switzerland.
      • Carlos Luis Parra Calderón, Chair of Innovation Technology, Virgen del Rocío University Hospitals, Andalusian Health Service, Sevilla, Spain.
